Geneva Lake Women’s Project Museum Opening May 22

The Geneva Lake Women’s Project: Advocating for Women of the Past and Future

Saturday, May 22, 2010

10 AM – 4 PM

Opening at the Geneva Lake Museum

255 Mill Street

Lake Geneva, WI 53147

During regular hours on May 22, museum patrons can “meet” ten dynamic, self-motivated women from various periods of Lake Geneva history from the 1830s to the 21st century. Hear about their scholarship, talents, civic and charitable contributions, activism, and accomplishments. Consider the changing roles of women from pioneer days to modern times. Peruse the biographical accounts contributed by the Geneva Lake Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to various exhibits throughout the museum.

The community of Lake Geneva, WI has a long and rich history. Although the contributions of women have been many, recognition has been slight, as evidenced by the scarcity of information about women in the Geneva Lake Museum of History. This community service initiative of the Geneva Lake Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) promotes inclusion of more women in the Geneva Lake Museum. Members of the AAUW Branch will re-create through costumed portrayals the personae of ten significant women of Lake Geneva’s past. Biographical accounts of their lives and accomplishments in education, the arts, literacy, philanthropy, and politics will be added to existing permanent displays to provide a more accurate account of this area’s growth.

Admission is $6 for individuals, $5 for seniors, and free for museum members with membership cards.
