Discovering Mary Through Research and Imagination

Presented by Diane Disse the lecture is about Mary Bensell, , who recently authored historical novel about her life, titled: The Edge. Mary Bensell is notable in the early settlement of what is now Lincoln County.

She was the first white woman to live in the area; she was an abused woman; and she divorced the man she came with to the area. She then married an important figure in the continuing history of settlement around Yaquina Bay. Disse will speak about Mary Bensell’s life and the process of writing about her through research and an informed imagination. She also will discuss the role of personal experience in writing and the wide variety of traditional sources available as well as the Internet. The free program will be held on March 19, 2011 at 1PM and is hosted by the North Lincoln Historical Museum at 4907 SW Hwy 101, in Lincoln City. Phone: 541-996-6614
