A Special Letter from a New Jersey Educator

Dear all,
I am a third grade teacher at Jefferson School in Hawthorne, NJ. I have been celebrating famous women for over ten years by having students research their acomplishments, then perform a Women in History Show.

Students sing, dance, and act out skits about the jouney women have taken throughout the years.  The show honors a different women each year.  For example, two years ago we honored a local poet who has won numerous awards, an assembly women from our district, who took the time to celebrate with us, and this year we are honoring World War II women veterans.

What a honor to have these 90 year old women come to speak to the children and remind them that they can accomplish anything they want. The show lasts about an hour and we take the long road traveling from the 1900′s to the present. Teaching the children the story of Susan B. Anthony and others like her is a great gift I give to my students each year.  This year will also feature a moment of silence for Rosie the Riviter who passed away this year.

I truly enjoy teaching and hope that other teachers feel the same.  WE CAN DO IT GIRLS!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Patricia Temprano ( Contact: PTemprano@hawthorne.k12.nj.us)
