We Need Your Support

Dear Friend,

Thank you for helping to make National Women's History Month 2010 and our 30th Anniversary such a success. When we founded the National Women’s History Project in 1980, we had no idea of the incredible journey we would experience as we worked to Write Women Back into History. This historic passage from a small grassroots organization to a national institution was made possible by the generous support of people like you. Thank you for believing in the need to honor, recognize, and celebrate women’s historic achievements. Today, I am writing to ask for your continued support.

On March 25, 2010 in honor of our 30th Anniversary the National Women's
History Project was recognized by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton, and Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey in Statuary Hall
in our Nation's Capitol.

This year's theme, Writing Women Back into History, was used by tens of thousands of communities, schools, libraries, workplaces, military bases, government offices, and places of worship, not only in our own country, but throughout the world to help make women’s lives visible.

Our 30th Anniversary was such a success, that with your help, we want to continue the momentum of this extraordinary achievement by launching a new campaign to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. We will join with our 2010 Partners to encourage celebrations on August 26, 2010 in communities, schools, and workplaces throughout the country. If we don't celebrate this important historical event, who will?

We are also using this 90th Anniversary as the kick-off to a 10-year plan for the Woman Suffrage Centennial in 2020. We will be working with The National Collaborative for Women's History Sites (NCWHS) to create a national clearinghouse for information on state-by-state Woman Suffrage celebrations leading up to the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution on August 26, 2020. Our goal is the creation of a nationwide Woman Suffrage Trail highlighting the role of each state in the 72-year national campaign that won the right to vote for women.

We have achieved unbelievable progress in our first 30 years of Writing Women Back into History. With your help and with the momentum that has been already been created by the work and support of tens of thousands of others, our future success is almost guaranteed.

With much gratitude,
Molly Murphy MacGregor
